Hey there, I’m so glad you could make it! The other guests are already here. Someone even brought a cake. Take a piece, sit down and grab a digital copy of my first own murder mystery for Brindlewood Bay, because today is
Brindlebirth Day
One of the Murder Mavens celebrates her birthday. Little does she know that there’s an uninvited guest: Murder!
A personal mystery…
I love scenarios that focus on the player characters‘ lives. That’s why I longed for a murder mystery that was deeply personal.
A murder in one of the Maven’s homes was what immediately came to my mind. But why stop there?
Make it her birthday party. Invite some guests, like her children or grandchildren. Are any of them involved in the crime? Will they survive the festivities?
To top it all of, there’s a suprise visit by the local Sheriff.
…that needs to be personalized
The personal apporach has some disadvantages that you should be aware of.
One of them is that this mystery comes with some prerequisites.
- The Maven that is celebrating needs at least one living child (or grandchild),
- one of the Mavens needs a home that is suitable for a party.
- at least one of the other Mavens should also have a living (grand)child who is also invited.
The Keeper needs to know all of this in advance. This results in two consequences for which I was unable to find a workaround:
- Brindlebirth Day needs a bit more preparation than other mysteries,
- in order to prepare for it, you should know the Mavens beforehand. Thus Brindlebirth Bay is not well suited as a standalone mystery or a oneshot.
Still, I feel like this price of admission is worth it. Shaking up the personal lives of the Mavens should bring lots of fun drama to your game.

I you’re looking for a German version, you’ll find one here: Brindlebirth Day (deu).
If you enjoyed this mystery, I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
I was to fast to send the comment 😀 I hope I’ll have an opportunity to try it out, but I am not sure if I manage to fit it into my current campaign.
Note: there’s one forgotten german sentence in the en version (Die postbotin naturlich…)
Oh. Thank you. No idea how this one slipped through. 🙂 I uploaded a new version!
That looks pretty dope. I really like the idea of having personalises mystery like this.
